Lee Chang Dong Retrospective

South Korean cinema has been one of the greatest contemporary sources of quality films of late. With more and more highly-acclaimed works produced by renowned auteurs like Park Chan Wook, we feel that it is more than justifiable to actually feature retrospectives of significant filmmakers now rather than later.

Starting this Wednesday (20 July), a Lee Chang Dong Retrospective is held in town. We'll be treated to 4 of his films, including the recent film that won Best Screenplay and nominated for the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival last year - Poetry.

The film listing is as follows:

POETRY (2010) - OPINION: A-

OASIS (2002) - OPINION: A-

PEPPERMINT CANDY (1999) - OPINION: Coming Soon

Through this retrospective, we hope to be exposed to contemporary South Korean cinema and learn infinitely about it. Perhaps in the midst, you will also be influenced (hopefully) and might be keen to check out any of these films that intrigues you.

We shall be sharing our opinion of these 4 films by South Korean new wave filmmaker Lee Chang Dong and update at intervals during this week, so do check back for updates!
